Pierce Brosnan Becomes Brand Ambassador for Speake-Marine

Pierce Brosnan Becomes Brand Ambassador for Speake-Marine

Ok women, we have to admit, Pierce Brosnan is just darn good looking. His Irish appeal has captured hearts around the world in his various roles that range from Remington Steele to James Bond. Easily one of the worlds best known actors, Pierce Brosnan has now taken on what could be the role of a lifetime: he is the new (and first) brand ambassador (for three years at least) for Peter Speake-Marine — one of the finest independent watchmakers in the world.  (By the way, ladies, Peter is pretty good looking and rogue in his own way — oh and so are the watches he makes!) Peter and Pierce met on the set of one of Brosnan’s recent films – where Peter was a consultant for a watchmaker character in the movie. The two struck up an immediate friendship – talking the artistic worlds of films and watches. Brosnan, a watch lover, not only likes Speake-Marin watches, but also purchased one — all of  which led to this new role.  Says Brosnan, “When Peter asked me to be an ambassador for his work it was a simple answer.” The renowned Swiss photographer Marco Grob shot the campaign in his New York studio, where his mission was to capture the shared values of Brosnan and Speake-Marin: elegance, simplicity, independence and courage. Thinking he did a pretty good job. By the way, Brosnan will be starring in two new movies in 2015: The Moon and the Sun, Last Man Out and...
Actress Susan Sarandon Talks About Time

Actress Susan Sarandon Talks About Time

Earlier this year, thanks to our friends at IWC, we had the opportunity to meet with actress and political and charitable activist Susan Sarandon. As a result of that interview, our founder, Robertaa Naas, wrote an in-depth article for Gotham Magazine. Now, we bring you some excerpts of that article about how time factors in to Sarandon’s life. How does time play a role in your life? “I think time is arbitrary and we have to make our own time. If you see the great athletes when they are in the zone- they make time count, they are in the moment. It would be great if, as ordinary people, we could do the same thing as an athlete does, be really in the zone, present and make time our own like that. Does time get away from you when you are working? “When I’m in a film, I need to not be aware do time. When you are making films, you are doing the same thing over and over again, so your sense of reality is complete warped. You can be doings something all day long that will actually only be a minute and a half in a film, so you suspend time when you are making a film.” Do you remember the exact moment you knew you wanted to be an actress? “No, I didn’t know I was going to be an actress. I never studied acting and I never wanted to be an actor, I just kind of fell into it. That’s probably what made it easier for me, because I didn’t take it that seriously. But then, after I did it for awhile and paid off all my school debts, I thought, ‘Well, I guess this is what I do.’ I find acting curious and amusing. You get to travel; you...
A Moment in Time: Fabrizio Buonamassa, Bulgari Watch Designer, Talks Sexy

A Moment in Time: Fabrizio Buonamassa, Bulgari Watch Designer, Talks Sexy

While Fabrizio Buonamassa designs both men’s and women’s watches for Bulgari (including the record breaking men’s Octo Tourbillon released earlier this year), it was women’s watches we focused our discussion on recently in the New York Bulgari boutique. In particular, we discussed the stunning new Serpenti single-coil diamond secret watch and the alluring new Lvcea collection – whose sexy bracelet and overall design was inspired by the rigid yet incredibly ergonomic bracelet of Serpenti. Buonamassa even brought out his private sketches to demonstrate the integrated look of the Lvcea and how it got its sexy appeal.   Originally from the car design industry, Buonamassa says that the most important thing when designing a product is to be true to the brand’s heritage and DNA, in order to be able to deliver the dynamic look customers expect. “When I imagine a product, I imagine all of the elements. The inspiration comes from everywhere. At Bulgari, architectural elements are important, we like to play with clean shapes,” explains Buonamassa. “ For high jewelry watches we work with het out jewelry side in Paris. Because we have jewelry and watchmaking, we have all the ingredients we need to marry the jewelry and watch side beautifully.” “For the new Lvcea, you can find a similar design as in the Serpenti but the execution is different. We find incredible inspiration from our archives, but we need to be contemporary. It is important to be able to recognize the look and know the brand from 10 meters away when a watch is on the ladies wrist – and so we have to have the right balance between smoothness and sharpness, between rigidity and comfort. As Buonamassa pulls out sketches of the new Lvcea watch he draws our attention to the shape of the bracelet links,...

TW Steel Unveils New Kelly Rowland Canteen Bracelet Timepiece

Last night, Grammy Award winning singer Kelly Rowland revealed the stunning TW Steel Limited Edition Kelly Rowland Canteen Bracelet. The event was held at Feldmar Watch Company in Los Angeles, where the global lifestyle brand known for their oversized wristwatches, is being celebrated as the watch brand of the month. This release honored Rowland’s second timepiece designed in coordination with TW Steel. The Kelly Rowland wristwatch features an all-black PVD coated steel case and bracelet. A revised link design on the bracelet differentiates this piece from the original canteen bracelet models that were first introduced last year. A black dial with rose gold numbering and indexes allows for a simple and refined look, while white hands bring a new depth and element to the design. The large 40 mm watch is powered by a chronograph Miyota OS20 movement. This timepiece is perfect for a woman of any age and style — it’s limitless with its options. Kelly, who describes this limited edition watch as simple, elegant, and classic, has been spotted numerous times wearing her TW Steel out and about. What’s great about the Kelly Rowland watch is its versatility – a simplistic design that can be either muted or emphasized. This piece is casual enough to be worn as an everyday watch, but when paired with some beautiful jewelry it can also be dressed up for an elegant occasion. The dark coloring and sturdy design give this timepiece a bold, strong look while the rose gold highlights brings a hint of light and femininity to the design.TW Steel CEO, Jordy Cobelens thinks the Kelly Rowland Canteen Bracelet will be a hit as it perfectly combines Kelly’s taste and TW Steels tradition of large statement watches. “This watch has an allure that I know will be very attractive to...
Cameron Diaz Supports Women’s Rights

Cameron Diaz Supports Women’s Rights

She won our hearts in the film The Holiday, and in a host of other roles she played over the past years, including There’s Something About Mary and Being John Malkovich, among others. While she is an acclaimed actress, Cameron Diaz is also a supporter of women’s rights and a brand ambassador for Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer. Recently, while here in New York, Diaz spoke in an exclusive interview with Gotham Magazine about her passions and the role time plays in her life. Q: How do you divide your time between your personal life and work life? CD: “Because I am fortunate enough to make a living doing what I love doing and I get to participate in things I am passionate about, I don’t really ever consider myself working – I feel like I get to do so many amazing things and I’m so blessed to be doing what I do that it doesn’t feel like work. There are times when you need to have some down time, or time when you don’t have to do something, but that’s what Sundays are for; Sundays are for brunch end relaxing.” Q: You are quite actively involved in the United Nations’ organization, UN Women, can you tell us more? CD: “UN Women is always fighting for equality for women all over the world, and especially for women who don’t have anybody to fight for them, those women who are really struggling to be recognized as human beings. This is something we take for granted here in America because we are born with the rights that these women will never know. So, when you look at that as a woman, you can’t really be in good conscience if you see it and do not want to help them. I am...
